Summer Home Tours

Today, I’m joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for her week-long summer home tour event. There will be 30 home tours shared over the week with tons of beautiful summer decor inspiration. You can find a list of all of the bloggers participating at the end of the post. Just follow along and enjoy!

If you’re coming over from A Stroll Thru Life – welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m sure you enjoyed Marty’s beautiful home. I love her blue and white touches {my favorite summer color combo!} and use of patterns and textures. Today, I’m going to be sharing some simple summer decor ideas as we tour around our front entry and dining room. I hope you enjoy your visit!

Summer Front Entry and Dining Room

When you first come in our front door, we have a small front entry way. There’s a bench for storage against one wall and and an Ikea shoe storage cabinet on the other wall.

The front entry pretty much opens right up into the dining room, so I generally try to keep a similar decor style between the two rooms.

For our summer decor, I wanted a light and airy feel with blues, whites, and pops of greenery. I also like adding lots of texture with woven baskets, pillows and other textiles.

I also added some wood tones for extra warmth.

Today I thought I’d share some of the simple steps that I go through when I’m putting our summer decor together. Even little changes can make a big impact, so don’t feel like you have to do a lot of work. Just switch things up a bit, add a couple of seasonal touches, and have some fun with it!

Summer Decor Ideas

These simple summer decor ideas are an easy way to add a pretty, summer touch to your home. Although I’m showing you our living room, these tips can be used for any space in your home. I hope they help give you a starting point for you summer decorating, but there really are no hard and fast rules to follow. Just do what you love!

Pick your color or theme.

Having a color scheme or theme will give you a starting point for your room. Once you’ve decided what you want to go with, shop your home for decor elements that you might want to add. Be sure to pull some neutral elements too to balance everything out. You want the colors and theme elements to “pop” – not feel too overwhelming. If you saw my summer hutch styling that I showed you last week, you know that I love blue and white with touches of green. I went with the same color palette in our dining room but with a slightly softer hue.

Incorporate functional elements.

Using functional items such as dishes, cutting boards, or serving ware as decor allows you to display your pretty items while still keeping them easily accessible for when you need them. I love using white dishes and serving bowls as my base so they can be used with different accent colors for the various seasons.

Add napkins or dish towels for easy pops of color.

Dish towels and napkins are the easiest way to add a quick punch of color and work perfectly when you just need that “something extra” to fill up a little space. They can also add a little extra texture and depth to your displays.

Go green.

Whether it’s plants, faux greenery, or clippings from the garden, greenery brings life to any space. For this simple summer centerpiece, I re-used the cut up ferns from my Easter centerpiece. I also used fern stems throughout the room to tie everything together. Don’t be afraid to cut up faux stems into smaller pieces that fit your space better. Tuck the stems into vases, jars, bowls, or anywhere else that just needs a little pop of green!

Add a beverage bar.

A beverage bar {or other food bar!} can be a fun way to incorporate some seasonal decor in any space.

Last year I did a lemonade bar in this corner, but this year I put together a quick flavored water bar. All you need is a large beverage dispenser and some fresh fruit. I used blueberries and lemons for this display but you can use whatever you have on hand.

Not only does the beverage bar look cute, but it’s also a great reminder to get in your water each day. Just fill it up in the morning with water and some ice cubes and you’ll be surprised at how much you drink. I love the added flavor from the fruit and it’s fun to come up with some different flavor combos.

This wall ladder with hooks works well to to keep any cups, napkins, and other necessities handy. I added the metal bin  on the bottom for some extra storage as I didn’t end up needing all of the hooks.

Use artwork.

Artwork is any easy way to bring in some color into your room. Find a print or design that you love and pull the colors from it to use in the rest of your space. For an inexpensive option, look for free printables that fit your design style and decor. There are SO many available options to choose from, so you’re sure to find something you would like. If you’d like the summer printable below, you can find it here. For more free summer printables, check out this post and this post.

I also printed out this beautiful palm watercolor from Craftberry Bush. The blues and greens worked perfectly for the space.

Cut some fresh flowers.

Even just a few fresh flowers adds a pretty, summer touch to your space. If you don’t have any flowers that you can cut from your yard, an inexpensive bouquet from the grocery store works too. You can even divide up a larger bouquet into smaller bunches to place in multiple rooms throughout your home. For tips on how to make cut flowers last longer, check out this post.

Thank-you so much for joining me today! I hope you enjoyed the little tour and found some inspiration to decorate your own home. If you’re new here, I’d love to connect with you. You can always find me here…
