Kitchen of the Week: A Jewel Box Kitchen in the English Countryside

Located in a once-derelict country cottage in the village of Sadberge in County Durham, this petite kitchen by English cabinetmaker company deVOL functions as a jewel box cooking space for an avid collector of quirky objects. “To display his objets, the owner needed plenty of open shelving, glass-fronted cupboards, and a dramatic backdrop,” according to deVOL. “This decision to go for dark colors in a small room is a brave one, but it worked so well and gave the room grandeur and a real sense of presence.”

Here’s a look:

The deVOL Real Shaker cabinets are painted in Bakehouse Green, and the glass-fronted wooden cabinet is vintage. shaker kitchen devol durham 4 Above: The kitchen hardware is from the deVOL Bella Brass line of knobs and handles.
